Some FEB radios are battery operated, some are solar powered, others are wind-up (dynamo powered) and others are mains powered.

In areas where there is no mains power, where grid electricity is expensive or erratic and especially in emergency situations other power sources are preferable to mains power.

Different power options are appropriate for different signal distribution conditions.
